The Aruba Carnival 2023 is set to take place from January 7th to February 21th, with a variety of events and activities planned throughout the month. The schedule of events includes:

  • January 7th: FakkelOptocht or the Torch Parade

The official start of the Aruba Carnival is ignited by a Torch Parade, which is similar to the Olympic torch. It’s a twinkling nighttime, with the darkness of night providing the perfect backdrop for the parade’s thousands of sparkling lights.

  • February 4th: Children’s Parade Noord

To ensure that the carnival tradition is passed down to future generations, Aruba Carnival includes parades and activities for children.

  • February 11th: Pyjama Party – J’ouvert Morning

The J’ouvert morning pajama party kicks off the final week of Aruban Carnival celebrations! This is an exciting street party that starts after midnight at 3 a.m. and lasts until dawn. It takes place the night before the Grand Lightening Parade on Aruba.

  • February 18th: San Nicolas Grand Parade

The Aruban Carnival season concludes with the Grand Parades. The San Nicolas Grand Carnival Parade is the first, and the Oranjestad Grand Carnival Parade is the second. The Grand Carnival Parade is a joy to witness and experience.   • February 19th: Aruba’s Grand Carnival Parade

The Grand Parade, held in Oranjestad before Ash Wednesday, is the highlight of carnival. The Grand Parade begins at noon and continues until late in the evening. It is the longest parade, with the most marching participants and the biggest audience of spectators.

  • February 19th: Burning of King Momo

King Momo personifies the carnival spirit! He represents dramatic irony, fun, liberty, and satire – everything that carnival represents. King Momo is a gigantic puppet who is thrown into a bonfire and burned at midnight after the Grand Parade. This marks the end of Aruba Carnival for another year and the beginning of Lent. Don’t worry, King Momo will be back for next year’s carnival.

Aruba Street Parties – Jump Offs

Jump Offs are the street parties that take place during Aruba Carnival. Throughout the month, spectacular parades and creative contests are held in various districts.
