That said, a trip this way doesn’t have to be one that breaks the bank. Elevate Florida Fun with Outdoor Movies!

The beauty of heading to Orlando is that no matter what time of year you arrive to enjoy time away with the family, you’re likely to find great weather waiting to greet you. Because there’s plenty of sunshine and warmer temperatures to go around, making the most of outdoor movies is always a fun addition to your itinerary that won’t break the bank. Popcorn Flick in the Park is a monthly family-friendly viewing event that doesn’t cost anything to enjoy. It’s hosted by Enzian Theater on the second Thursday of each month. Guests are invited to make their way to Central Park in Winter Park with their chairs, blankets, and snacks in hand to enjoy a night of outdoor movie watching in great company!

Lake Eola Park in downtown Orlando also hosts an outdoor movie event that doesn’t include admission costs known as Movieola. This is typically hosted between April and September before returning for special viewings in December. Guests are invited to show up early because every movie viewing within this lineup has a theme and a full collection of kid-friendly activities to try out before the show even starts. There are also plenty of vendors on hand selling food and beverages when cravings come calling. Be sure to bring your own chairs and blankets for this movie-going event which is held on the park’s East Lawn.

Let a Library Card Open Up a World of Free Events in Orlando

Families that are looking to enjoy a wider variety of cost-friendly activities and events throughout the greater Orlando area and who travel this way frequently may want to consider the benefits of acquiring a library card from the Orlando Public Library. Having this card gives you and your crew access to the Local Wanderer program. Within the parameters of the program and subject to seasonal availability, cardholders can enjoy free admission to participating local organizations and venues across the city! A few of the major participants in this program include the Central Florida Zoo, the Orlando Museum of Art, the Orlando Science Center, and the Audubon Center for Birds of Prey just to name a few. It’s definitely an option worth looking into when you’re hoping to diversify your itinerary while saving money at the same time.

Explore the Orlando Urban Trail

If you and your traveling crew are the types that love to lace up your walking shoes and get out and explore, taking the time to trek the Orlando Urban Trail is a great and cost-effective option to add to your must-do list while you’re in town. This 3-mile route hits a variety of city hot spots and can be walked, biked, or skated at your family’s very own pace. The trails can be accessed in Ivanhoe Village and make their way through the Mills 50 area all the way to Mead Garden. There are plenty of lakeside stops to enjoy along the way as well as great views for those who are interested in practicing their photography too.

Check out Diverse Word Open Mic

For families that are interested in the arts and have a heart for creativity of all types, checking out Diverse Word while you’re in the city is a great option! This is Orlando’s longest-running open mic event that first opened in 2006 and continues to invite artists to the stage each and every week. It’s free to attend whether you’re planning on participating or just interested in observing. Those who hit the stage bring music, comedy, poetry, and rap with them making it a great and versatile show! Diverse Word is held at Downtown Credo in North Quarter every Tuesday evening between 7:30 pm and 10:00 pm.
