Building on the phenomenon that is Harry Potter, Universal Studios in Orlando has expanded its Wizarding World of Harry Potter footprint. Opening June 13, 2019, Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure will become the newest attraction in Hogsmede at Islands of Adventure. Universal touts it as the “the most immersive, highly-themed coaster experience yet.” Here’s what you need to know about this latest magical adventure:
In the books and movies, Harry and his friends are cautioned to stay away from the Forbidden Forest. You, however, will dive right into the off-limits woods on Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure. The Forbidden Forest is made up of real trees, transporting you right to the outskirts of the Hogwarts castle. You’ll dip and dive around never-before-seen Hogwarts ruins, as you escape the clutches of these magical creatures.
Before you get on the ride however, you’ll queue up in the aforementioned ruins, preparing for a Care for Magical Creatures class with Hagrid and Mr. Weasley.
Climbing on a replica of Hagrid’s famous motorbike with sidecar, you’ll start your journey into the depths of the forest. Hagrid leads the way on your trip, as you twist, turn and speed through the trees. The flying coaster ride reaches speeds of 50 mph with a 16-foot free fall drop, backward drop and seven launches. When you ride, you have the choice of riding on the motorcycle or in the sidecar, both offering their own unique perspective.
Hagrid is so lifelike, you’ll think a bit of magic is involved! Universal’s Creative team worked directly with Robbie Coltrane, the actor who brought Hagrid to life in the movies. They studied his mannerisms to make Hagrid as real as possible, right down (up!) to his 7-foot-6 frame. The similarities are uncanny!
Along the way, you’ll encounter some of the best-known creatures from the books and movies. You can expect to see a blast-ended skrewt, centaurs, devil’s snare, thestrals, merpeople, grindylows, gnomes and cornish pixies (there are 13 during the ride…can you spot them all?). Of course, an adventure with Hagrid wouldn’t be complete without an appearance by Fluffy, the three-headed dog.
Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure will not be included with Express Pass, at least for the immediate future. Riders will have to be 48” tall to ride.
Whether you are one of the first in line to ride Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure or you wait until the crowds die down, when you stay at a Casiola property, you’ll be just minutes from the action.
