It’s Raining, It’s Pouring – What To Do in Orlando When It Rains

It’s raining, it’s pouring – What to do in Orlando when it rains

What's going on in Orlando?, Orlando travel and vacation planning tips, Shopping
While Orlando is known for year-round warm temperatures and lots of sunshine, it does get occasional rains. These generally come in the form of afternoon thunderstorms that come in quickly, drop rain for an hour or so and leave just as fast. Cloudy skies don’t have to ruin your day, however, as Orlando has plenty to do inside.

Shop-til-you-drop

Souvenir money is burning a hole in your pocket and rainy afternoons are a great time to spend it. Orlando is home to several amazing shopping centers, including the Mall at Millenia with over 150 upscale stores and restaurants. Another popular option is the Florida Mall, with over 250 stores, including the American Girl Store and the Crayola Experience, where budding artists can show off their art skills with crafts and coloring. Pointe Orlando offers lots of shopping options, as well as entertainment with the Main Event Bowling Center and Monkey Joe’s indoor bounce place.

Visit a museum

Just north of the theme park area of Orlando sits another fun spot where you can visit several museums at once. The Loch Haven Park area is home to the Orlando Science Center, the Orlando Fire Museum and the Orlando Museum of Art, all offering indoor fun. Plus, it also houses several theaters and the Orlando Ballet. Found right on International Drive, Skeletons is a cool skeleton museum offering freaky fun, while the Chocolate Museum and Cafe includes free samples of its namesake sweet treat.

Check out other Orlando attractions

While you may be in town for Disney or Universal, Orlando has tons of other great attractions. If rain spoils your day at one of the big parks, take advantage and visit other cool places like Ripley’s Believe It or Not, Madame Tussauds or Wonderworks. The Sea Life Aquarium takes you under the sea to view incredible underwater creatures. The Titanic Exhibit lets you step back in time and learn more about the tragic maiden voyage of this grand ship. Even in not-so-great weather, ICON Orlando offers incredible views of their area from your enclosed (and rainproof!) cabin.

Try your hand at something new

The weather outside might be frightful, but that doesn’t mean the fun has to end. If it rains during your stay, try something new that you wouldn’t normally get to do at home. Go indoor skydiving, white-knuckle it during some indoor go-karting or test your nerve at an escape room. Orlando is also home to trusty stand-bys like bowling, movie theaters, paintball and indoor mini golf.
